TNG Services recently carried out a comprehensive service of a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact system boiler in Radlett. The visit included a full visual inspection, safety and performance checks, and cleaning of the magnetic system filter.

Cleaning the magnetic system filter
A magnetic filter is fitted to a heating system to capture circulating magnetite and other debris before it can repeatedly pass through the boiler and radiators. Over time, this material collects around the filter magnet and must be removed during maintenance.
The dark coating visible on the magnet shows the debris captured from the heating circuit. Cleaning the filter restores its available collection surface and helps it continue protecting the system.
Why this matters: a magnetic filter is only useful when it is maintained. If collected debris is left in place indefinitely, the filter has less clean surface available to capture further contamination circulating through the heating system.
Why annual boiler servicing is worthwhile
A boiler may continue to provide heating and hot water even when maintenance is overdue. However, normal operation alone does not confirm that the appliance is clean, correctly adjusted or free from developing faults.
Periodic servicing helps provide a clearer picture of the boiler’s condition and creates an opportunity to discuss any recommended maintenance before the next period of heavy use.
